The Weller Gallery at Fellows Riverside Gardens welcomes back Noreen and Betsy. This exhibit shares their world through art. As an introduction, they open the show with a series of still-life works painted during a Cathy Welner workshop, titled Welner Florals One and Two. These pieces show how two artists, looking at the same subject on the same day, can create unique and distinctive interpretations. As you explore their work, we hope you'll sense the unmistakable mark of each artist--whether it's Noreen's or Betsy's--and that you find joy and inspiration in what you see. Betsy Ford Growing up with musician parents, I was blessed with an environment that encouraged creativity. I developed a love for drawing, painting, and writing early on, with the support and guidance of my family. My artistic journey began with my first art teacher, Heidi Elsaesser, who taught me that drawing is as much about looking as it is about making marks. I studied at YSU and the Maryland Institute of Art, later returning to YSU to pursue English while continuing to nurture my passion for painting. Learning the exhilarating challenges of watercolor with Mary Kay D'Isa further fueled my artistic exploration. I draw inspiration from artists of the past, as well as from contemporary painters like Noreen and members of the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society. Even as technology evolves, I remain committed to achieving the effect I desire with traditional materials: paint, watercolor, paper, and brush. Noreen Yazvac For me, painting is both an essential form of expression and a daily ritual. Although my parents encouraged my artistic endeavors in childhood, they also guided me toward a conventional career. I pursued work as an administrative assistant at YSU, all the while nurturing my love for art. My passion for watercolor blossomed under the guidance of Christopher Leeper at YSU, and I have since embraced this vibrant medium. Collaborating with Betsy--especially during our years as co-presidents of the Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society--has enriched my artistic life. This exhibit, long in discussion and anticipation, is a testament to our shared quest for new techniques and fresh inspiration. Painting is my meditation, a cherished outlet that continually rejuvenates my soul. The artists hope this exhibition invites you to view their art from their unique perspectives and inspires you as much as the creative process inspires them. Enjoy your visit.
