Programs

Throughout the duration of MCMP events, programs and/or classes, there are opportunities for photographic and video coverage by MCMP which may include your participation or observance of the activity. MCMP reserves the right to use the photos and video at its discretion for media coverage and promotional materials, including broadcasts, reports, publications, social media and marketing materials of MCMP. If you do not wish to be photographed or video recorded at the event, please let the photographer or videographer know prior to being photographed or videotaped. MCMP shall otherwise assume that it has your permission to photograph or video you and/or your child's involvement and participation in this activity. Is Lanterman's Mill haunted? Join Park staff and a local paranormal group to investigate the mill in the dark of night and decide for yourself. Lanterns will guide your path during your visit. Walk with a Geologist: Witch Hunt Edition

In the spirit of upcoming Halloween, come join a park educator on a witch hunt! Learn about the urban legend of the Witch's Cave area, while exploring the geology that makes it the perfect place for a 'hideout'! Meet at the Flats Parking lot and enjoy an afternoon hike along the Witch's Cave and Cascade Ravine. Approximately 1 mile, moderate - difficult terrain (climbing up steep steps and across rocks). Science Class (For Adults!): iNaturalist and Citizen Science

Why let the kids have all the fun? The Science Class series invites ages 18+ to dig in to their natural curiosity and explore the living world with a Park Educator through hands on learning. Think of a seventh grade science class for adults! This month focuses on phone/tablet apps that can enhance your knowledge of the natural world and maybe even contributing to science. Learn how to use iNaturalist and Seek, Merlin Bird ID and eBird, as well as other apps available to you. We'll learn what citizen science is (and isn't) and discover ways you can get involved. Golden Hour Stroll - Halloween Special

A special Halloween edition of our beloved "Golden Hour" walk! As the golden light begins to fade, the sun slips below the horizon, dusk settles over the landscape, and darkness slowly awakens. Stroll through the hauntingly beautiful surroundings of Lanterman's Mill and Lake Newport Dam during this magical transition from day to night, where every step uncovers fascinating stories from the Park's rich past. Enjoy a relaxing guided walk filled with local history, legends, and seasonal atmosphere as twilight gives way to evening. This leisurely 1.5-2-mile hike follows uneven paths, so please wear appropriate footwear. And don't forget your camera--you never know what enchanting sights (or spooky surprises!) you might capture.
